Day tips from marrakech – to imlil the high atlas

1 Day

Day trips from Marrakech, Imlil is the picturesque gateway to Morocco’s High Atlas—where walnut groves, terraced fields, and snow-dusted peaks meet warm Berber hospitality. This one-day escape is perfect if you want mountain scenery without a strenuous hike or an overnight stay. We’ll set off in the morning along winding roads through the Haouz plain and into the valleys, stopping for panoramic photos and mint tea with a local family (if available). In Imlil, you’ll feel the air get fresher and the vibe slow down: mules clip-clop through the lanes, small cafés serve tagines by the river, and trailheads point toward Toubkal National Park.

Your guide will lead an easy village stroll (or optional short hike) to admire juniper and walnut trees, traditional stone houses, and views across the valley. You’ll learn about Berber culture, seasonal farming, and how local communities adapt to mountain life. Lunch (optional) can be arranged at a family-run guesthouse or a mountainside café—simple, flavorful, and memorable. With time to browse small cooperatives for argan oil or handcrafted wool goods, we’ll head back to Marrakech by late afternoon, carrying crisp mountain air in our lungs and a camera full of views.
